I haven't driven an Elantra since my brother totaled my 06' GT in 2012. I remember the Elantra GT as being one of the most comfortable economy sedans I've ever had the pleasure of driving.

I just recently drove the 2014 Elantra sedan via Zipcar on a business trip to Philadelphia. The Elantra comfort factor has really slid downhill. The seats are now unbearable. In addition to being rock hard. They have two ridges in the side that are in the wrong place and poke me in the back. The seats also put you super low in the car making visibility poor and the arm rest is all the way back meaning I had to hang onto the steering wheel with both hands.

I have another Zipcar 5 day trip planned for next week in Los Angeles, but someone got into an accident with the car I chose and now I'm stuck with another Elantra. The Elantra was so bad on my last trip that I am actually considering upgrading to a Caddilac STS for $100 more to avoid the pain.

What the hell happened? Elantra used to be awesome. It's a disgrace!

I drove my dad's 2013 elantra and felt it's a big upgrade from my 05. It's still an economy car, but I felt the features and comfort were an upgrade from mine. It could be that the new seats just don't fit everyone exactly. There are some cars that I hate their seats. And I personally like the rock hard seats (maybe I'm weird).

Yeah, comfort can be kind of subjective. I honestly haven't heard too many complaints about this generation Elantras being uncomfortable.

Stephan, I think the center armrest is actually adjustable (slides back and forth).

I'm not sure about sedan but GT has a lever on left side of seat that cranks it up and down. As stated last post above, arm rest slides forward.

I'm happy with comfort of my 14 GT. It is not as good as 07 Acura TL type S that I traded, but I did not expect it to be same. Did a trip month ago with my teenage son via Vegas to Utah and back via north rim of canyon. Three fairly long days of driving, no complaints. I turned 50 while up in Utah - my now ancient butt (according to my son) did fine in GT wink.gif

Elantra history:
02 GT loaded until Feb07 - a great car, only reason for sale was relocation Canada to US
Sep08 bought a very used 04 GLS - a fine daily driver but bare bones
Feb14 new 14 Elantra GT - very pleased - fun to drive, lots of features AND economical!

There are definitely certain cars that just for some reason don't fit someone's body. I've taken my '13 GT from SC to PA on several occasions (650 miles each way) and it's been perfectly comfortable. I do have the power seats and adjustable lumbar support so that may help, but the car is night and day compared to my '04 GT I used to own. Hopefully the next one will be better!

yeah its not about size either, theres no "one size fits all" in ergonomics...

the Ford E250 im in All day is spacious and soft but it just doesnt fit me well
but my little nissan is firm and a little tight.. lets call it cozy... if i put the wheel up i can bring my knees up and i can chill all day like that

Oh no, I'm so sorry... the correct answer is The Moops.

The packaging clearly stated '100'. I'm short ONE luft balloon.

Seat cushions seem to be getting stiffer in newer vehicles. Not my thing, I like the plush soft seating versus the dense foam sponge.

Hey-Having owned an '11 Elantra Limited sedan, with manually adjustable seats, and a '13 Elantra GT with power driver's seat, I've never had a comfort issue with either set-up. In fact, the GT is one of the most comfortable cars I've owned, which include many Mercedes-Benzes, an Acura, a Nissan Maxima, and so forth. The worst seat I've had was on the '99 Accent L. Terrible! Sorry you're not liking the current Elantra seats.

Nay nay.... never mentioned elantras. I said newer vehicles in general. I'll be posting a long topic but basically after spending a month car shopping.... I can attest newer vehicles are stiffer. Hyundai was not on the shopping list....

The seats in my 2013 Elantra GLS feel soft compared to those in my 2010 RAV 4. They were fine for a 4 hour ride. I haven't taken the Elantra on a longer trip than that. The RAV 4 is a limited with leather seats which are stiff as boards.

I agree that there seems to be a trend towards stiffer seats. Maybe it has something to do with safety and the airbags. I also prefer softer seats, especially for long drives.

Overall I really like the Elantra interior. It is a big improvement after 17 years in a Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder. The visibility in the Elantra seems panoramic after driving the Eclipse with the top up......

My 2013 GT is the most comfortable economy care I've ever owned. The seat quality is easily twice as good as Corolla. I got some upgrades like the seat heaters and 17" wheels, pw windows and locks, but that's about it. I like it better than both Corolla and Civic and the engine feels more powerful and responsive. The gas mileage is awesome. My 2004 Corolla seats were spitting at the seams at 90k miles. I have a dog, but my Elentra seats are standing up to the abuse. It's got a great standard CD radio and icy A/C too - no complaints on comfort.
