So someone posted this article over at NT.com
http://automobile.auto123.com/en/info/auto...iew&artid=41494Now while they're flamming the guy for making another post about "speculation" that the new Tib is going to be RWD everyone seems to have passed over the last paragraph in the article.
To fill in the gap left by shifting the Tiburon upscale, Hyundai is considering a high-performance all-wheel drive sports compact loosely based on the MC4 (next-generation Accent) platform. The small sporty car should arrive within three years' time. The next-generation Tiburon, in combination with a new large sedan and the potential small sports car, should contribute significantly to Hyundai's plans to become one of the world's top five manufacturers by the decade's end. Let me point out where it says, HIGH-PERFORMANCE ALL-WHEEL DRIVE SPORTS COMPACT. Jeez, I wonder what competition has that is AWD and high performance? The STI and Evo. Imagine a 300ish hp accent. Wow.
I know I'm speculation also about this but hey, I'd rather have a high performance AWD Accent then a RWD Tiburon (which would probilty end up being slower )
You know, I'd always suspected that Hyundai would someday come out with a STI/Evo fighter. I always though that they'd use the Elantra. After all, the Elantra is more of a direct competetor to the Lancer or Impreza. The Accent competes more with an Echo or Aveo IMHO.
RWD Tiburon or AWD Accent. I'm excited either way.

Today while heading out to lunch I always drive past the hyundai dealer because its right down the street from my house. and right out front they had a huge banner and a 2006 sonata up on the display rack!. It was white. Not a bad looking car by any means. I decided to stop in and just ask them how much they wanted.
27K!! i know thats a huge markup! I asked him if i were to buy it right now, how much could he knock off. LOL he laughed and said none. I laughed back and said Bye! then comes the... wait hold on let me talk to my boss and see what we can do... LOL I told the sales guy (never seen him there before) that I lost intrest and that I love my elantra and unless he can get me a killer deal on a 05 GT then im gone.. He did offer me a good price on the elantra 12k fully loaded. with 1500 rebate. But I cant afford the payments.
Oh well... anyone else seen a sonata in their town?

Hyundai's new top of the line XG350 replacement goes on sale next Wednesday in Korea. It will be interesting to see how it sells... it's a dramatic improvement over the somewhat boring looking XG350. Finally, Hyundai has a "luxury" car that looks good. It will be known as the Azera in North America. I like it:

Hyundai to Go Rear-Drive in 2007
Hyundai has announced that they’ll begin production of a rear-drive luxury model. We rented a Sonata a year or two back, and were very impressed with the build of the car and the quality of the interior materials, although we didn’t care for the powertrain or the styling. That said, this is another big step for the Korean automaker. We’re not big fans of front-wheel drive in general. We love driving the Mini Cooper S, but it’s the exception, rather than the rule. A great explanation why is here. Aiming for passionate drivers is a great move for Hyundai, and another reason why the Big Three (especially GM, in this case) should be worried about the Korean threat.

Looks like the XG350's replacement will be called Azera here, not Grandeur or whatever it's called in Korea. It's now featured on HyundaiUSA.com and says "Coming Fall 2005." There are also some pictures of the Sonata and Accent but I can't click on them here at work (requires Flash player)

Hyundai introduced its new Portico concept vehicle at the Chicago Auto Show. The crossover concept is designed to support the use of Hyundai’s hybrid drive system. The Portico is powered by Hyundai’s new Lambda 3.3 liter V6 engine with aluminum heads and cylinder block.
The Lambda V6, which appeared this year as an option on the new 2006 Sonata, produces an estimated 237 hp (177 kW). This engine is the first member of Hyundai’s new Lambda engine family and incorporates DOHC 24-valve CVVT (Continuously Variable Valve Timing) technology and a Variable Intake System (VIS).
In the hybrid configuration, the Portico uses dual electric motors. The front electric traction motor delivers 110 kW (136 hp); the rear, 60 kW (83 hp).
Hyundai has been partnering with US-based Enova Systems (formerly US Electricar) for years on the research and development of all electric, hybrid electric, and fuel cell drive systems. Hyundai Motors and Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) took equity stakes in Enova, and in 2003 the companies opened the joint Hyundai Enova Innovative Technology Center.

Hyundai truly looks like they are moving their designs into a whole new ballpark of sophistication and it bodes well for the next gen-Elantra, I think
