Drove the T&C to the grocery store tonight (the Elantra still has 70 lbs. of amplifier in the trunk) and the beast threw 4 different warning lights at me. The brake light, ABS, brake assist system and ESP. The van stopped just fine for the short trip, it's got plenty of brake fluid (which could stand a change, but that's another story) and the fuses/relays all looked okay on a quick inspection. Any ideas as to what the problem might be? Don't want the wife to be nervous about driving home in the middle of the night tomorrow.

T&C = Town and Country

What year is it again? My '05 would occasionally do something similar, and then it would correct itself. I know my gen of van had an issue with the GEM just wigging out like that and thing no issues shortly after.

With the Honda's, that was a sign of a bad battery/weak charging system. When voltage drops below their minimum for those sstems they shut down, throwing the warning lights. IIRC, it wouldn't be low enough to throw the battery/charging light but low enough for those systems to have a conniption fit.

Thanks for clarifying for him. It's an '08, so it's the next generation up.

I suppose it could be something electrical. If I have time before she has to leave for work, maybe I'll run up to (insert one of 3 parts stores here) and have them test it. I didn't throw the OBD2 reader at it because I figured it wouldn't have any codes to read from that. It is a 7-year-old van, so it could be the battery has had enough. Stay tuned.

While you're at it, check the cables (obviously) and the main chassis ground.

Connections look okay, and the system test showed that everything's working but the battery is a bit low on charge. Looks like it's still the original - still says Daimler Chrysler on it, so once there's a little flexibility in the budget for it I'll replace that. In the meantime I'm going to put it on the charger and see what that helps.

So I did a little testing beyond that on the way home and discovered that the lights don't kick on until the automatic door locks lock the doors (about 15mph). In fact, the last time I shut it off, restarted it and took off that the lights came on but the doors didn't lock. This has got me confused.

Not sure if the locks are still doing their weird thing, but now the fish to fry are just jumping in the boat. It looks like I may have to replace the oil pan gasket. Doesn't look impossible to do, but I'm really starting to suspect this was a flood car. Lots of rusty stuff that probably shouldn't be as rusty as it is yet, even on a 7 year old van. This ought to prove to be fun, and not in the good way.

Sucks man, Sucks big time. Pulling up the carpet and looking for mold or rust spots will tell you if its seen water.

Honestly, you'd be surprised at how fast the Chr trucks, cans and cars rusted. Id seen some one owner 5-year old T&C's with rust through the lower hatch.

So, I took it for a test drive since the wife was concerned about a leak. There wasn't really any remnants of the puddle from last night, so I'm inclined to believe no oil or coolant (although there were places on the back side of the block that make me think there is some form of leak). I think it was just condensation from running the defogger.

The doors locked this time and the warning lights did their thing, but 2 pushes of the "ESP OFF" button turned that light out. The brakes work just fine, although I didn't try to engage the ABS. I'm thinking the battery is the culprit.

I have seen bad electrical grounds do the same thing as low output from an alternator
Bad electrical grounds to the computers or ABS units can cause warning lights to come on .. even though everything seems alright
Just a suggestion
