why would it over heat?
u mean like actually send coolant temps to danger zone or just getting hot and losing power? -------------------- Oh no, I'm so sorry... the correct answer is The Moops.

I've never heard of anyone having an issue with overheating by replacing the stock intake with an aftermarket one. I've done it on an '04 Elantra and my '13 with no issues.

How could removing an intake box possibly make the ECU overheat? That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever!
Perhaps you're misunderstanding something that you read. Could it perhaps be that someone said that removing the intake box causes the engine to overheat, because the ECU is getting bad data? That's at least within the realm of possibility. -------------------- Regards

The intake of the HDs cools the ECU. I have not head or any overheating when the air box has been replaced...

The intake of the HDs cools the ECU. I have not head or any overheating when the air box has been replaced... So the ECU on the HD is under the hood, rather than under the dash as it is on the XDs? That seems like a bad idea... -------------------- Regards

ford's been doing for a while, makes swapping them a 5 minute job...
shortens the harness wire length allowing less signal loss...theretically but in my focus and edge its literally a matter of snApping retaining clips off and two nuts.. but they were cooled by cowl passage, not intake -------------------- Oh no, I'm so sorry... the correct answer is The Moops.

Yeah it's right there... It's in the bottom corner of the picture below...
As a side not I just changed my ignition wires and finally got a K&N (something IHeartMyRedCar told me to do years ago) and I just got around 40 MPG. -------------------- |

I've had a cone filter on mine for at least 30,000 miles and have never had any problems. I worried about it to after reading somewhere about the intake cooling the ecu but took the chance. But my driving is 80 percent interstate. Not sure if that has helped keep it alive or not. I average right at 40mpg
