Me too. Best thing you could do is get your self some good race rubber. Then get the sway bar for the rear. Its fun time.

After 2 years of runnign the car in STS, it's the wrong car. Trust me. But do it. YOu will have the best time, meet some great people and have a ball suprising people that would never think a Hyundai could do that!

I won this years (2008) Class in my region. BUT. . . all the people in the civics (STS is aka SPec Civic) run our regional "X" class. If they had been included I woudl be 3rd. The Elantra can run a 225 width tire. DEFINATELY get the 19mm rear sway bar and upgrade the springs. You'll be suprised at what it can do.

Remember, with an overweight/underpowered pig, you can Turn OR brake OR accelerate. Never try to do 2 at once!

You should try ice racing with the audi to get your feet wet.Come up to the fox valley and come race with Fvscc.

You will love it. And don't bother throwing a bunch of upgrades at the car right away... you'll be better served learning to make the car do as much as it can with what it has already. And you'll surprise yourself. Depending on where you are and who you're running with, they may also have some sort of street tire class. They may even have a solo school before the season (I've been an instructor in Detroit region for a few years now). They *will* teach you how to get your sled to dance... and this is coming from a guy that started out in a Mazda 121, er, MX 2 1/2, er, Kia somethinorother... oh yeah, Ford Festiva. Keep us posted and bring back questions.

Sorry for replying to this a little late, but one Elantra has Autocrossed in the Milwaukee region, and it was mine. I ran my '06 GT in STS for two seasons. I gave it up last season for financial reasons, but I did enjoy it very much. STS in the Milwaukee Region SCCA is uber-competitive, and the Elantra will not win there, but it will make a good showing, and you will meet a lot of good folks and have a blast. Several of the STS drivers are national champions. They are very approachable, and willing to share pointers with you. If I had some more disposable income, I would still be doing it.

Craig was the first STS guy (not local) that came up and talked duringthe Peru tour.... the rest just glanced at the Elantra and walked away...

I actually plan on racing my s4, not the elantra

and I swung by miller park today and watched the auto crossers for a little while. totally wanted to race but I didn't register and I still have my slicks on from going to the track on friday so it kinda wouldn't have been good in the rain lol.
