Emily, the consensus is that the trip computer is .1-.2mpg over the calculated value, which comes out to a difference of 1-2% typically. Still, it's most accurate to calculate it the old fashioned way.

So you say that you've tried everything. Have you tried Ethanol-free gas? I've had plenty of friends who own a slew of different types of cars try it out and see their MPG go from the upper 20's to low 30's up to and beyond 40. They may have been driving with a lead foot, and changed it when they pumped in the EFree gas. Who knows. But I would try that out if you can. You may be surprised and see a difference.

That is so true! I actually got to fill up with ethanol-free gasoline once last year. I noticed an improvement in my gas mileage. It was very close to what actually showed on my average fuel economy indicator in my Elantra. Normally, with E10 gas, it can be as much as (approx) 4 mpg off.

Unfortunately, since I live in the Dallas metro area, there are no ethanol-free gas stations around unless you drive to places like Greenville or Gainesville. I might have to fill up with ethanol-free fuel the next time I'm near a station that sells it. There are websites that list gas stations that sell ethanol-free fuel.

I took my car in last week for an oil change and asked about the compensation plan. Before, I had tried the website, but it was acting kinda wonky. They told me to try it again and when I did, it worked and allowed me to punch in my information. Before, it "couldn't find my vehicle".

I've put approximately 18k miles on my car since I bought it. The initial amount of compensation I'll be getting on the debit card will be around $68.

Mine has never been that accurate, save one time when using ethanol-free gas. Luckily, I use the Gas Cubby app on my iPhone to keep better track of my fuel economy.
