Browsing around Kia's site today, I noticed the Spectra5 sharing an uncanny mechanical resemblance to the XD Elantra. 4 lug wheels, similar features, interior that takes cues from the HD, though. If I could afford one, I'd plunk down the $17,500 for it based on that similarity alone. Can anybody shed more light on the resemblance, and being more than passing?

Wow. . . are you new here? Yes, they are the same car. Same Beta II CVVT, same trans, same basic suspension.

I want to know if the '03 Tib Hardride suspension would fit and if my rims and brakes would fit...

Rims yes. Brakes. . . dunno. Same with the suspension.
The pad and rotors are different. The H&R springs are also a different number. -------------------- Founding Member of the Indiana Chapter of the Teeny Weeny Club for Secure Adult Males

1. Hyundai owns Kia
2. The current Spectra was developed from the XD platform 3. The Spectra5 was designed by the same guy who designed the Mazda3 wagon 4. Many XD mods drop directly into the Spectra (such as the Tibby Sway Bar... there's a Spec5 owner on EXD that's done it) If you look at the Edmunds TMV price on a new Spectra, you will find it considerably more affordable than the sticker would lead you to believe. I was ready to go for a Spec5 if I couldn't find an Elantra with the options I wanted. Because it is a slightly newer platform than the XD, it is superior to it in some ways (for instance, Spec5 = standard 16" alloy wheels). Handling is VERY similar to the Elantra, both good and bad aspects. If someone totaled my Elantra and I went to buy a new replacement, I would probably buy either a Spectra5 or a Rio5 (which is based on the Accent). One deceiving aspect about the Spectra5 is that it doesn't, in fact, have a "larger tail" that the Elantra 5-door. It is a more square rear end, but the Elantra hatch is actually a slightly longer car and has more cargo volume. -------------------- A proud member of the club.

I noticed that Kia is advertising 32 highway MPG for the spectra5. Does anybody know if this is because of the new EPA ratings, because if it isn't, then that is a huge disparity between two cars. The HD gets 36 with the old rating and 33 with the new.
