I just purchased a 2003 Elantra GT hatchback from the owners children. They didn't believe the car came with remotes to unlock the doors.

When I use a key to lock/unlock the door, all the doors and hatch unlock, which would indicate to me the hardware for a remote is in-place.

Anyone had this issue?
Anyone purchased remotes - where did you purchase and your experience.

My Elantra has 77,200 miles on it. Owned by an elderly couple who didn't seem to drive a lot. The car came from Tracy, CA. It does have a little hale damage on the roof. The car is clean and looks great and drive like new. Really love the car.

They definitely came with remotes. You'll find some on Ebay although I believe a dealer may have to program it to work with your car.

Welcome to the club! As Mitch said, they did come with remotes. Sounds like you got yourself a little gem there. Do you know the last time the timing belt was changed? I would just make sure I understood when some of the critical maintenance like a timing belt or tranny flush was done so you don't unexpectedly have a costly repair. thumbsup.gif

With an '03 you can do it yourself (although it can be a pain to reach).
'04 is when it changed to a dealer only deal.

I ordered two remotes, one for each key. Thus far, my dreams have been met. Finding a ten year old vehicle with clean title and 77k miles for $4,400 is almost too good to fathom. Everything is is great shape, leave the covers over the mirrors on the sun shields are missing/broken. Since they aren't lighted, it's more of a so what.

Will be glad for this coming week-end to do the transmission and engine oil changes. Right now I'm working and getting the rest of the legal stuff done before immersing myself in new car stuff.

Thanks for the help on this.
