Here is my 08 Elantra SE. It is the Apple Red with Black Cloth Interior. The black interior is extremely rare and I love it! It includes the heated seat/sunroof package. Currently has 31,000 miles on it.

Mods:

Exterior:
Tinted Windows - 35% on the sides, 5% rear window
Rear Glass Spoiler
Trunk Spoiler (not sure of the name)
Avante S20 badging
Custom Incus Grill
Sunroof Air Deflector

Under the Hood:
K&N Air Filter
NGK Iridium Spark Plugs

Coming Soon:
Wheels - The exact set is being left a surprise
Tires - Not sure of the tire yet
Eyeliners
NGK Spark Plug Wires
Angel Eye Headlights
Black Vinyl Taillights

There is also a bumper sticker above the center brake light that says, "Don't touch me, I'm not that kind of car."

I'm really liking that Incus grille! And that rear glass spoiler really does add to the HD's appearance, me likes.

So does the carpet match the headliner? blush.gif j/k

Lovin' the car! The rear glass spoiler looks great. I've been thinking about it and after actually seeing it (not just the pic on the add) I'm thinking I may go ahead and get it. Planning to get the LED spoiler. Once I get a new fender and hood, maybe I'll get these too before having the car repainted.

(You know what they say about opinions.....everyone has one. Ahem)
just my personal taste but I'm not feelin' the wheel color.
But it's your car and you made it the way you like it. That's what counts.

Has there been any noticable difference with the plugs and filter? I've been looking to get a K&N filter but can't really justify the high cost if it's not going to do anything other than make my wallet lighter.

well i got the k&n filter for $48.00 dollars. it is a lifetime filter. it just needs to be cleaned and re-oiled occasionally. just dont over oil it because the car wont like that in the long run. next i got the spark plugs. there wasnt a noticeable difference until i put NGK wires on. there is defiantly more spark being produced. has a little more "unff" when you accelerate from a stop. i see a big difference when im going say 45 mph and i floor it. it takes off quite nicely.

I guess I should have finished my drunk post from last night. Lol

I have been thinking about getting the rear glass spoiler and LED spoiler. After seeing a pic (not just the product add pic) I'm definately going to do it. Maybe when I get a fender and hood I'll get these also before getting the car painted.

Posted by: IHeartMyRedCar Aug 20 2009, 08:42 AM

thanks for the complements.

got to love drunk posts!! i cant seem to find my spoiler anywhere for purchase. it is one of a kind. the new elantras come with a smaller, more flat spoiler. the rear glass is an awesome small addition.

I love your car but wouldn't the calipers be better red?

Posted by: fuelrat Aug 20 2009, 11:40 AM

Agreed! Red would really **pop** behind the black wheels. Plus it would take away part of the "black hole" illusion.

Posted by: IHeartMyRedCar Sep 1 2009, 09:35 AM

maybe i will paint one black and one red and put them back on and see which one i like better. im still tore on which way to go. the black is easy to match, the red not so much. the red on the lip of the wheels is a slightly different red then the red on my car. to get the wheels custom painted to match the color of my car it would have cost me 50 dollars a wheel.

Posted by: Alex2004GT Sep 1 2009, 11:34 AM

I would go with red. Even though the color won't match perfectly, I don't think it would be very noticeable. Plus once a little brake dust gets on there, you definitely wouldn't be able to tell. I know I debated about black v. red, but am quite happy that I went with red.

Worst case scenario is you don't like it and then repaint them black.

Here's a shot of mine for reference:

Posted by: IHeartMyRedCar Sep 3 2009, 08:49 AM

how long does it take the paint to dry? just curious because i use my car everyday.

Posted by: elantragt Sep 3 2009, 09:37 AM

I'm pretty sure if you put a couple coats of paint on and let it dry overnight you'd be fine the next morning. thumbsup.gif

is there a special site where i can buy caliper paint? i want a custom red because the "regular" is too bright for my car.

Local automotive...for you in Berks county.....

NAPA Auto Parts (610) 286-0065 - 108 Mulberry Ct, Morgantown, PA

They should carry caliper paint...fairly cheap. Any if you are unable to paint the calipers yourself (hard to remove?) you could probably go to a local shop that will charge u cheap to do it....Ask around. Good luck!

hey Amanda, the regular red might not be as bright as you think. I thought it might look bright (granted mine is on a black car) but once it went on it wasn't nearly as bright as I thought it would be. Ideally I wanted a deep maroon color, but the red really wasn't too bad. Plus once a little brake dust gets on they look much darker. I never did look into whether I could get a custom color, so I'm not sure where you could get one or how much it would cost?

Posted by: IRUN619 Oct 13 2009, 01:24 PM

I used the high heat red gloss on mine. Came out pretty decent. Took one rim off at a time and filled in the holes with news paper/paper towels and blue paper taped the discs and covered the lugs with a walmart plastic bag (yeah I shop at Walmart). I only wanted to paint the caliper. I left all the nooks and crannys alone and just painted the exposed parts of the calipers. Cover that little hole on the top of the caliper too. You don't want any paint dripping in there(who knows were that goes). Try to cover the pads and those little metal clips really good too. No primer or sanding required.

I did one caliper at a time and then put the rim back on. The rims isn't suppose to touch the caliper anyway and if it does then you have a problem. With the rim back on, the calipers will just take time to dry and cure and you can move on to the next wheel. I started at about 9:30pm in my garage and finished all four calipers at around midnight then went to sleep. Didn't drive the car for the next 12 hours.

I really wouldn't worry about getting the right shade. Perhaps they sell different rattle can colors at the auto parts store. I used the high heat spray can and was pretty happy with the outcome. Others may recommend the "caliper" spray paint or perhaps something different. Perhaps see what the shop will charge to have them powder coated same color as your body if you want that specific color but that could be pricey.

For your rims, hhmm I'd probably see if I can take those rims to a shop and have them all painted gloss red same as your body. I would just leave the spokes black. That's only my opinion though and I'm sure other people have different opinions.

PS. If you're interested, the Saab 93 Aero lip kit may just fit the HD. I measured it to be both about the same size 85"inches. Don't know if anyone else noticed it but the lip is also poly-urethane as well.

i totally missed this post. sorry to the late response. do you have pictures of the kit?

Posted by: IRUN619 Dec 17 2009, 08:39 PM

No, I haven't done any lip mod yet. When I was at the junkyard last week, I picked up some bigger brakes from an 06 Sonata. I totally forgot to check on Saab 93 Areo lip when I was there. I was too excited about my brake find. If I measured correctly, then that lip should fit almost perfect. Even a brand new one, would cost about $200 something online and they're are poly-urethane too.

I used VHT Caliper spray paint on my calipers. I masked off with painters tape the areas I didn't want to spray. Masked the rotors so I didn't overspray them. (Calipers are red and rotors are silver). I didn't even remove the calipers.
I bought silver caliper paint for the rotors and paint them each time I replace them. I mask off the braking area and spray the rest.
I put the tires back on the car. Let it sit for about an hour (go in and eat dinner or watch a tv show) went out and drove the car and did some aggressive stops.
It bakes the paint right on.

That was 5 years ago. They still look good and I live in the salt belt. I have retouched them up a little each time I do a brake job. (city driving is killer on brakes)
You don't have to wait 24 hours.

Oh, and your car still looks great.

Sadly, I traded in my 08 Elantra SE for a 2012 Elantra Limited with the Tech Package. He is no longer with me. He was sold to someone else in under a week. I put the stock grill back on before trade in so my INCUS grill is for sale. I want to get the rock chips fixed in it first though. My rims will be going on my 2012. I need to get new tires for those rims. The stock tires on the MD are crap. That's why I didn't transfer them over.

Well currently the grill is in PA. I am in VT at school. In May, I plan on going home and getting it repainted to get rid of the rock chips in. It currently is flat black with a red accents on it. I haven't determined the price because I have to see how much it is going to be to get it re-painted which I won't be able to do until May.

I will make a thread for my MD. Let me do go that now. smile.gif

Is the new one red too, or do you have to change your username? biggrin.gif

Well let me know! I'm definitely interested. As you know from my bio I'm right in Philly so no worries on shipping I can pick up. What do you mean by rock chips? Just small scratches in the paint? What would you call for cost without repainting?

Hope you're lovin the MD!

You better believe that it is Red with Black Interior again! They had to fight to get this one too! My life is the Red and Black combination. My wedding (will happen at some point) will be Red and Black. Hell my room is Red and Black.

Since the grill is plastic and I wanted that flat black look, the painter couldn't put a clear coat on it without it become glossy. So I told him no. He did say I could take it back to him and he would fix the grill up for cheap at anytime since I am repeat customer. This guy does all the my custom work. Putting a price on the grill is tough. There are no more available in the world(as you already know) besides the ones that are currently on HDs. I'm honestly going to have to think about how much I'm going to sell it for. I haven't put it up for sale anywhere yet because 1) it's not with me at the moment and 2) I need to fix it up. I will for sure contact you when I figure out a price.

I would like to second in line for the grille. Even if you don't want to pay to repaint it.
