I would like to know if it is possible to swap kia forte struts ( which by looking side by side are pretty much identical) to an md/ud elantra or GD i30 (elantra GT). The reason beeing, my stock struts even on a 2013 are pretty much done, I can get kyb for a good price for a forte, and I also have a set of forte lowering springs that i would like to swap on my GD. I would be using the elantra top hats to insure a good strut tower fit. Theorically it would fit but i'd like to get more info, has it been done before on a elantra (or veloster ?? ) Just for your information the rear fits perfectly and I have absolutely no buyers for those springs, the kia modding scene in quebec is pretty much non -existing !
thank you. -------------------- A proud member of the club.

Hopefully someone will chime in that knows for sure. But I want to say no because they are different platforms (I think??). But I'll let someone that knows for sure to confirm.

I know from talking with Lee Grimes at Koni that the Elantra and Forte struts are not 100% interchangeable. mounts for the sensors, brake hose and sway bar links are all in different places. The actual strut itself (inside the housing) is identical though. Rear shocks are the same. The Forte and the Veloster are closer (but would need to swap left to right, right to left IIRC) and has a much larger shock body than either of the Forte or the Elantra which allows you to use a Koni insert in them.
If you DO decide to try this...I have a set of Elantra K-sport tophats with camber adjustment I'd let go cheap. I don't know of any KYB's that actually fit the Forte though is the main issue.... I know that Bilstein makes good front shocks for hte Forte, so there is that. They are a bit expensive though at about $180 each and they're only the front. I'm thinking about a pair of them, the Koni rear's(that I already have) and some H&R's. The Forte, Elantra (GT, sedan and coupe) and Veloster are all on the same platform but there are silly differences between them. EDIT: I just pulled up the KYB site and they are now showing struts for the Forte. nice... gotta be better than the stock piles of crap on it now. -------------------- Founding Member of the Indiana Chapter of the Teeny Weeny Club for Secure Adult Males
