Does anyone know how to defeat the safety feature of the in dash screen so that it plays when I drive? I know that I can connect it to a switch instead of the parking brake. Somebody mentioned it a while back I just dont remember who. Is it a positive or negative signal that this wire needs to be connected to?

In the last trade with my installer, I had him install these Clarion Pro Audio 6 1/2" Components in the front. To mount it behind the stock tweeter grill, he had to rig up something special (otherwise it would have been super tacky!)
So when it was all said & done... here's the lowdown:
1) Stock deck needs to be turned up much loader to get the same amount of sound (likely the speakers need more power to run them).
2) Less bass from the drivers than my stock ones, but also much cleaner.
3) Highs are much more detailed, and the sound is very bright (too bright?)
4) With little control available from the stock clarion deck, tough to find a good balance between getting some decent bass, & not having my head ripped off by the tweeters.
So a new deck will be needed to remedy the situation, but unfortunatly it's not in the books these days!

Okay, so I've been making my mod list and have come to the stereo part. JPJR gave me an idea for the speakers.. Probably my last question is DIN Size.. I know a 1 DIN will fit fine as that's standard size. What I'd like to know is if a 2 DIN (DoubleDIN) HU will fit.?.?
I'm thoroughly torn for DVD/LCD HU's, and it seems ppl find fault with the noise of the Pioneer AVIC N1, Kenwoods Quality, and other makers lack of features/design/quality. So I'm looking at a 2DIN unit wondering if it'll fit..
As a side question, I'd like opinions on who has the best Navagation systems?

Well, I finally decided to get my radio looked at. My AM reception has been very poor for a long time now and I finally had time to take it to the dealer.
They even have a computer in the waiting room.
They put in a new Kenwood unit and still have the same problem. We'll see what they do next.

It has been along time coming. As most of you know, I am always changing parts and trying different things to get the best sound possible in my Elantra. After some long thinking, careful shoping and allot of research, I think I have everything I need to start putting it all together.
The headunit will remain the same, a basic Alpine cd player. It does not have the crossovers or time alignment, but I like to keep the headunit simple. If I could afford it, I would have replaced it with a Nakamichi(and still may in the near future), but for now the Alpine is it.
For amps, I now have a Phoenix Gold XS500 that will be bridged(1x500 watts rms @ 4 ohms) for bass, a PG XS300(2 x 75 watts rms) for my front mids, and a PG XS300 (4x35 watts rms) for my front tweeters and rear speakers.
A Phoenix Gold 15 band per channel EQ with a 24db slope hi/low crossover and 200 hz- 6k hz bandpass filter for rear speakers, will keep everything in tune.
A Linear Power XO-2 active crossover will divide the frequencies for the front mids and tweeters.
Boston Acoustics Pro series 6 1/2" woofers will be in the front doors.
Vifa aluminum dome tweeters will be playing the high frequencies up front.
Infinity Refernce series woofers will be in the rear running bandpassed from 200hz-6K hz. These will only be used to add a little rear fill and will not be heard much.
And for sub duties, an Elemental Design 16Kv2 -15" sub in a 1.5 cu. in. box
Most of the stuff is either here or on its way. It may take a while before it is all in and ready to show. Finally tuning of the crossovers and EQ will be done on a 30 band RTA. This will be done at a shop, as I do not have the extra $1500 to buy my own. But the rest of the install will be done by myself in my spare time. This will probably be the last install I do, as I am getting to the age were car audio installs are becoming to painful and the spare time is getting harder to come by. Hopefully this will sound as good as I think it will and keep me happy for a while. I know a 15" sub and 500 watts sounds like overkill, but this being my last system, I errored on the side of overkill. This system should have great SQ with the ability to get as loud as you could ever want when I finish. 800 watts rms should keep me happy for a while

Hello all, nice to be back in the new and improved forum.
I joined one of those CD clubs recently. Playing a few of the CDs, I can tell that the sound in
my stock 04 GT hatch is definitely lacking, particularly in the bass. I'd like to see about upgrading
the sound system - not looking to shake the walls, just want a fuller and more balanced sound.
Don't want to spend a whole lot of $$ either. There's a fair amount of road noise in our cars
as you know, so it doesn't make alot of sense to me to go full-out on a high end sound system
anyway.
Any suggestions you guys have are appreciated. Thanks!

I was wondering what kind of speakers came in the 04 GT with the Kenwood deck. Are they decent speakers or stock garbage or stock goodness? Worth replacing with relativlely cheap aftermarket speakers?
Also, the Kenwood unit, according to their website supposedly has some aftermarket parts like a headsup display and steering wheel controls. Has anybody come across these? I think on the back of there's an input with standard RCA jacks? Is this the case? If so I think I'll get some short extension cables and bring them down into the area under the ashtray so I can hook up an mp3 player or something.
Thanks,
josh

I'm trying to add a plug-n-play sat receiver to my '04 GT. I've managed to "mount" the antenna on the roof (washer nozzle makese this interesting). I was thinking of punching a hole thorough the metal by the weatherstripping near the rear brake light bundle and running it down and around through the detachable floor caps.
My question is, does anybody know where I can get some type of rubber gasket to keep the water out? I hate to have to do this with silicone and I'm not crazy about running the antenna wire over the weatherstripping and underneath the caps that way.
Any advice would be great.
