Seems Hyundai has revealed a concept truck called the Santa Cruz.
Very interesting, and if priced right (<$24,000), something I will be looking at. Doubt it though with a diesel (which would be nice, even with the higher price of diesel fuel). Would like to see some interior pics too. -------------------- "Those who yell the loudest about how unfair the world treated them are usually the reason for the treatment in the first place". Reminds me of a Subaru Brat with a modest lift.

I would be interested in this. Just don't make it huge. Even the new small trucks from GM are bigger than a full sized truck was 10 years ago.

Looks like it's just big enough to be completely useless. You can sort of wedge 4 people in the cab, you can't haul anything properly in the bed, the wheels are ridiculously large... I understand it's a concept vehicle, but that's all that should ever be without a major overhaul.

I would never buy a truck if I can't haul lumber and furniture with it. Otherwise I would just buy an SUV. I like the looks of it but its bed is way too small.

What's the market like in the US for small trucks like these? Over here I couldn't see anyone getting out of the their Commodore/Falcon ute for this.

What's the market like in the US for small trucks like these? Over here I couldn't see anyone getting out of the their Commodore/Falcon ute for this. That is the big question. Thing is, we have the Toyota Tacoma, Nissan Frontier and Chevy Colorado (and it's GMC cousin). The Santa Cruze is meant to be more car like than these, and cost less. It will be for those that don't need a truck, but every once in a while need to haul somethng a little bigger than what would fit in the back of an SUV, or something that is dirty that they don't want in the back of the car/SUV. I don't see it as a truck replacement, if you need a truck, get a truck, but for those that every once in a while need to move or carry something big, this is it. Things like bikes, ski's, a little bit of camping gear, some bags of compost, rocks, bushes even small trees for a weekend yard project. I could see my mom in something like this. She has a Saturn Vue right now and uses the back of it to bring her trash to the local waste disposal (no curbside pick up), loads of a few bags of mulch and bird seed and other stuff like that. The back of her Vue is a mess and sometimes can smell due to trash leaking. She has a tarp she keeps back there to help keep it clean, but still. She has thought about getting a truck, but they are all a little too high, even the 2wd models sit higher than she likes (has hip issues). She also needs something that can haul at least 4 people, so very interested to see how big those back seats really are; big enough for 2 adults or just for kids. On the concept, I agree the wheels/rims are horrible, but even production vehicles are getting like this. This thing should have 16's max, but I am sure it will come with 20's. -------------------- "Those who yell the loudest about how unfair the world treated them are usually the reason for the treatment in the first place". Nolan, I like your point. If this is something like a smaller Chevy Avalanche then they might be on to something. I'd love to hear that the rear cabin wall folds into the cabin extending the bed to something that could haul 4'x8' sheets. I'm not holding my breath though. I think this will probably be too big to be a sedan replacement but too small to be a truck replacement.
What ever happened to the small truck? The Ford Ranger was such a utilitarian truck. Why doesn't anyone make something small, simple, rugged, and capable anymore? -Roy -------------------- |

Not sure if you read, but the rear tailgate assembly pulls out like a drawer to extend the bed (no pics, but read it in one of the articles that it does this). So gives you more length if needed, but not extra tailgate extender to carry around like current trucks. And I agree with the small truck. I would love to get my daughter a small single cab truck. Well, not made any more, all are at least extended cabs. In 4 years I will be looking at 10 yr old trucks to get what I want. I had read Nissan was thinking about re=releasing their Frontier truck from 10 years ago for a cheap truck, but don't know what ever came from it. Edit: Not the article I read, but saying the same thing about the Nissan truck. -------------------- "Those who yell the loudest about how unfair the world treated them are usually the reason for the treatment in the first place".
