Ok, so Hyundai's David Zuchowski didn't exactly say dull but he didn't exactly give the impression the 2016 Elantra will be a sweet looking car...

Speaking to Wards Auto, Zuchowski said the car
QUOTE
will be a "very handsome vehicle" but "it’s not as distinctive" as its predecessor.

Hyundai's Senior Group Manager of Product Planning (Brandon Ramirez) said the car
QUOTE
has scored "significantly higher" than key rivals - including the Chevrolet Cruze, Ford Focus, Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla

Those cars, while good are all pretty generic, styling wise. Sounds like the new Elantra's styling will be toned down similarly to what was done to the Sonata.

Hmm...

Well hopefully it's not too dull. But I do liked what they have done to the Sonata, it's less round and they squared off certain lines and I feel it's made the car look better.

I though the styling on the current Elantra went over very well with buyers? Why tone it back?

That's too bad, the new sonata is very bleh in comparison to it's predecessor. I guess the same will be going for the elantra.
