It was embarrassing for me to hit my key remote twice to be notified that I locked my 2013 Elantra GT successfully. The horn beep that sounds was just too weak and sad sounding. This is my first Hyundai, so I started looking and noticed that the horn has been upgraded due to previous model year complaints. I didn't see how this was an upgrade, because it just didn't sound good to me! It was then I found out the main horn is completely different from the "alarm" horn, or the beep/notification you get when you lock your car with your remote, or when the alarm goes off.
After reading through posts, I decided to install the FIAMM 72112 Freeway Blaster Horn in place of my "alarm" horn. It's not perfect by any means...I wish it were a shorter "meep meep" instead of a "beeeeeeep". But it is a step up in my opinion from the original. For $20, I can't complain.
Much improved sound.
By what I'm hearing and remembering, your stock horn sounds exactly like my 2011's horn, which I also upgraded. If there was any factory upgrade, I can't hear it. Yeah, the weak sound is somewhat embarrassing.
I think they upgraded the steering wheel horn, because that sounds just fine. I should get a video of it compared to the alarm horn that I replaced so you can tell what the "real" stock horn sounds like.
I still need to go through my manual, but my car doesn't "beep" when I lock it, instead it "chirps." The normal locking/unlocking chirp that a lot of cars use. I wonder if different option packages have different settings?
Yea, that is true. I guess that means no dying duck horn for me
Much better sound with the new horn.
Our 2012 Touring is different than the stock '13 GT's.
And sounds much better than the '04 GT's chirp we had.
Has a deeper horn than the '04 GT too.
I like it!!!!
I'll check it out, as well as try to set it off, and see what happens on the GT with tech package.
Nice upgrade; thanks for sharing it.
My 2013 GT with Style package has the same "weak" horn as your GT had.
There are a few items that they have "gone cheap" with on the GT and slightly disappointing over my 2005 Tucson that I traded in.
I will order my replacement horn right away. It seems like an easy mod to do.
Thanks again.
Interesting. Yeah, I found the "arming" horn sound a bit thin. I thought the alarm horn and the steering wheel horn were one and the same. Apparently not. I kept the alarm horn from my old car when I turned it in and just might replace the OEM alarm horn with that.
