Well - since I took the other topic off topic, here we go to keep that chat going.... and anything TO related actually
- we'll see if some of the previous posts make it into this thread...don't know if it's possible
QUOTE (MEly @ Feb 11 2008, 11:51 PM)
You lived downtown for a week...? How does that work? And holy crap you HAVE lived everywhere. Did you live at all the other places for a full year's lease? You know - until I met my current gf, I thought that York Region was the place to be. Yeah - I was mistaken. Don't get me wrong, I go to school downtown, but doing so has made me hate the site of Yonge and Dundas like nothing else. To be honest, until about 2 years ago (even though I grew up here), I never really realized there was more to downtown than the Yonge St. Strip.
As for your girlfriend... I take it she drives. That should make the drive to the Lakeshore campus less painful. Cause lord knows, TTC is NOT where it's at lol. What does she do at Humber?
Oh man, I could give you the lo-down on Greek food. My grandmother's Greek - so I got a lot of it whenever I'd visit my grandparents. If you want to go safe... start with their hummus (best in the city, IMO) then get any of the Souvlaki dinners. Once you've decided you like it - I can list other awesome dishes there. Oh - and it's cheap too (for what you get, it honestly can't be beat).
I guess I didn't technically have a place downtown, but was more just sharing my ex's dorm room for a week while I was looking for a proper room before the apartment. I've been in TO straight since Feb 2004, before that was London(ish) growing up and school. 1yr college in TO, then back to London for 1.5yrs of crap work - but in my field. Basically all places have been at least one year, some year and a half... I've got a nice rhythm going with the moves.
Yonge/Dundas... ha - I worked Yonge/Richmond for a year pretty much - that was ....fun....

and I thought I lived a sheltered life... j/k
the girlfriend doesn't drive (only G1 - and haven't gotten to helping her learn more, doesn't help that she's also having to learn on standard - both me and her dad's car, though her mom just got a used KIA... just have to get up to Huntsville to use it). The main reason for where the apartment hunt was aimed was for transit - right on the subway line... and over to Humber for only 4 months for a publishing course to go on top of her Masters of Music. After that it'll depend on what path gets her the better job - and hopefully the transit works out well, or I could even drop her off if its on my way to work.
I think maybe the next TO meet should involve some good eats like the sounds of the Souvlaki and hummus.
MAN I love this snow!! My boss tries to make us choose whether we have to go to work or not - when he's supposed to be making the call.... he's crazy

I've been looking around the forums but i have not seen
anything on the new Elantra Touring, now that it is
being promoted on the Hyundai web site.
Has anyone been into a dealer lately and seen any of these?
it's getting time to replace our 97 wagon and this looks like
a good choice.

I need to do some maintenance on my 09 Elantra and the dealer qoted me almost $1,000 so I'm wondering if anyone here can recommend a good garage in Calgary, Alberta that will perform maintenance for cheaper than the dealer. Any help is appreciated.

Why, oh why cann't people see the need for snow tires.
And get the dumb ass in the middle of the road, doing 30 kph, with shaved tires, off to the side!
Oh well, after 3 hours to drive 50 KM (a 45 min drive) i just needed to vent.
Have a nice day. May your wipers stick to your face.

I just had my car in for an oil change at the dealer today and when doing so i inquired about installation cost for lowering springs and such when the weather turns nice. I was told it is their policy not to install aftermarket parts so i will be looking for a shop to do the work.
With that being said i am calling on the Canadian members, particularly those that can recommend a shop in the gta, that offers good work at a fair price where i could get some suspension work done.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Well the end of the 02 GT has come, the brake line burst and there are too many other things to have fixed
so the Gt is gone.
I now have a 12 Accent GL 5 door in Boston Red. This little beauty has almost all the features as the GT had !
I've had it for a day and a half and it is a lot of fun, handles good , for stock.
Just a few quick pics of the Red One.

Well i've not been "in" for a while, i just browse a little but
yesterday i hit the quarter million KM.
When i left work there were 250002 KM on the odomerter, i guess its time for a oil change!
Not to many problems in 10 years (10 Sept/01 -> 16 Aug/11) just a couple of big ones,
new rad and alternator.
Looking at the new Accents as a replacement but only 4/5 door models now, i seem to
like the wife's 10 Accent 3 door when i have to use it.
I'm glad the club is still going along, it does seem to have some high and lows, maybe the
Veloster will bring in a some new blood.

Most Canadians have no-doubt heard the recent rhetoric about the potential upcoming election. I'm interested to hear what Canadian (and non-Canadian if you feel so obliged) members think about this.
I read somewhere that the government actually mandated the next election be held in October 2009 (not 2008) but Harper's trying to overthrow the government because he doesn't think he's going to have the support of the other parties. Now, Duceppe (of the Bloc) was quoted as saying that Harper could pull off another session in the legislature, he just doesn't want to. And The Star indicated that even Dion has come out now and said that Harper is on the verge of calling an election.
Here's the thing - I am generally a Liberal. I like most of their policies, I think aside from a few scandals they did a fairly good job running the country. Dion is not what Canada needs right now. In fact, last election, I voted Conservative for two reasons.
First - it was a personal attack against Dion. I honestly can't stomach seeing him as Prime Minister - same with my current MP. I feel like she's really done nothing of any significance for our riding. In fact, every news bulletin we get from her seems like all she's promoting is how she's been involved in cultural this and cultural that. So what?!
Secondly - With Paul Martin's minority falling so quickly, I read through both party's platforms. Although I don't support every Conservative motion, they made enough good points that I felt confident backing them up.
Now, I haven't done my research yet this election - but I don't think much has changed for me. Harper really hasn't done anything wrong. Sure, there's the Bernier scandal - but how is Harper supposed to be held accountable for that? For that matter - how can I hold the Conservative Party of Canada responsible for one man's idiocy? I agree that you really can't run a successful government with a Minority. Well, you can - but not when the parties are at odds like they've been for the past year while Dion's been trying to bolster his image.
To be quite honest, as much as I'd like to see an election now to put an end to this misery I'm hoping for a few things.
1) An election where the Conservatives win a majority. This will keep them in power for 4-5 years, I think things will go fairly smoothly and the Liberals will find a successor to Dion (who really should never have been leader in the first place, if it wasn't for Kennedy and Ignatief stepping aside)
2) The Conservatives win a minority. I would hope this would STILL be enough to get Dion out of the driver's seat. Unfortunately, this means ANOTHER election in 2-3 years. Really, it bothers other people more than it bothers me. They're on the campaign trail for one month and it takes me 10 minutes to vote. It's not like in the States where the campaign starts a year earlier with all the caucauses and such. But - it'll piss a lot of people off and mean even if he does a good job, he won't get back in.
What would concern me is if Dion wins a minority. Unless Harper screws up, Dion won't win a majority - but a minority is possible. Harper is kissing some serious ass right now... a probe into the Maple Leaf meats bacteria breakout - some promises to maintain production at the Ford plant in Oshawa... this is all pre-election bolstering. So really, unless he REALLY messes up - Dion won't win a majority. BUT... should he win a minority, I really fear for Canada. The Liberals on a whole are not that bad, but I just don't think that Dion has what it takes to maintain Canada's stature on the world stage. Especially following the last two Liberal Prime Ministers, we really do need a change - we need someone that can take the misgivings of the past and turn them into the future. Hmm... we could really use another Trudeau
Anyway - this was a LOT longer than I expected it to be, it just feels good to write about Canadian politics for a change... something I at least know a little about.

Well the "marshmellow" (97 Elantra Wagon) finally bit the dust.
The brakes blew a line and that was just the last thing, too many things to fix.
So, it got replaced by a Silver 2010 Accent 3-door.
Great little car, as many features as my 02 GT, just less space in the rear.
She who owns the Silver Bullit is quite happy now, no more groans, squeeks and rattles.
We will see if the Accent is as durable as the Elantra, in about 10 years!
