feasible upgrades for a street driven car would be a cold air intake, and a catback exhaust. anything else really requires getting into the engine, or removing the manifold to bore it for a bigger throttlebody, etc.

cold air intake, 58mm big bore throttle body, OBX underdrive crank pulley + belts, short throw shifter, magnaflow or turbo style rear muffler(keep the turndown to quiet it down more). those are all easy to install and will give you a bit more to play with.

~cold air intake - $50-100 either do-it-yourself or the ebay accord intake
~underdrive crankshaft pulley - OBX on ebay is $60 + $30 for new belts(a bit harder to install but worth it, can be done by a shop for $100)
~58mm big bore throttle body - kfx performance or grab a used one and send to guys at maxbore.com(i have a used stock one for sale if you need it) total $140-160.
~short throw shifter - fidanza, TWM, ralco rz are all good choices. i run the ralco rz and it was easy to install. total $60-150
~rear muffler replacement - magnaflow or turbo style muffler from jegs or summit and take to a muffler shop for welding. $150-200 depending on muffler shop.

Made a diy intake from pepboys but was setting a code cause I didn't do it right. Just put stock back on for now. Just bought belts for engine so no point in doing pulleys to buy more belts. Maybe later down the road. But would a bigger throttle body work on stock engine? Direct bolt on? No mods? Short throw shifter eventually maybe. Having shifting problems with 2 and 3. And looking to maybe get a borla muffler. Don't want raspy or loud. What about plugs and wires?

plugs and wires will give no increase in performance. big bore throttle body is useless on a stock motor since the intake tube is necked down into the air box.

drop in a K&N filter into the stock airbox and rip the silencer cone out of the fender well. take flexible garden hose and direct it from the front bumper to a hole cut into the stock lower portion of the airbox to make a ram air setup or figure out what you screwed up and install the CAI the correct way.

intake header exhaust is the most normal recipe that satisfies the occassional spirited driver.

can u post a pic and process of ur diy intake?
shouldnt throw a CeL...
if u have an 05 just sticking a cone filter on end of MAF has been pretty simple for most people (did u reset the ecu?)

i cant remember if 05 was drive by wire or not... but many models benefit with quality grounding upgrades resulting in improved throttle response... and even if just a regular old car benefits

just get ngk plugs and wires.... and clean/ replace pcv valve, take a look at throttle body and see if its clean...

alot of folks put catch cans or seperators on breather line to keep oil out of intake

and dont forget the coolant bypass!

porting and polishing throttle body was a nice upgrade for my elantra... the guy also knife edged the butterfly plate and i noticed throttle response instantly

From what i remember he didnt put the MAF in place with his intake, that is why he got a light.

grind it down to basically sharp edge instead of two right angles

like brick compared to door stop

and yes that provides about 2-3hp on cars maiking hundreds more hp. Not gonna make much difference on a Beta. You want serious power gains, standalone and cams. But you're going to get your best bang for hte buck with a 2.75" CAI and a 2.25" catback.

i dont know about horsepower... but reponse when u hit pedal and when the rpm's climb is important too...

granted the header runners available aren't incredibly huge, but just eliminating the first cat and smoothing out the flow makes a huge difference
