I found a little tidbit on an Australian site. Hyundai will be releasing an "SR" version of the new i30 hatchback. It features awesome new wheels, a rear diffuser, sporty red trimmed interior and... a 2.0 GDI engine with 174hp! I have a feeling we might just see this make it to the US.

Apparently, they will be doing an Accent SR as well.

Hey-I saw a video on taking care of the matte paint on a Veloster SR. The badge was on the front fender between the wheel and door, like on this I30. The rear diffuser shown is much beefier than the regular one.

Interesting to see. I never realized that the centre stack in the i30 is slightly different than the GT, mainly the air vent positioning. I'm not a fan of all that red either, the stitching alone would probably have been enough. And for power plant, not a huge difference between it and the GT's but it certainly is an improvement over the i30 power plants (1.4 deisel or 1.6 gas).

Ohh geez, I misread that post a little last night. I guess I assumed it was a 2.0T engine (like that in the Sonata) and my brain stopped functioning thinking the horsepower was 274 (not 174 as it is). Re-reading the change from 148HP to 174HP isn't all that great. I can now go back to life as regularly planned. But could you imagine the 2.0T engine in the GT. Ohh man, now you know why my brain stopped working and I stopped reading late last night! laugh.gif

LeMeez, when I saw the pictures I thought the same thing of the red interior. I really like the all black leather interior of the GT. I would need to see the red in person, but I think I would prefer my all black interior over that.

I do like the wheels and the front LED fog lights. Wish those were standard equipment on the US models. cool.gif

174hp may solidify this as my next car.

If they do direct injection, I would bet that the gas mileage will be about the same as the existing GT but give greater HP. If it doesn't have the same or better MPG; I would rather have the existing GT.

Well, I was holding out for a 1.6 turbo.
The 2.0GDI means it'll be in the same catagory as say the 2014 Mazda 3 when it hits the market with it's 2.0 skyactive. decisions decisions . . . . .

I kind of disagree, 26hp and more torque would give a noticeable boost in pep.

I meant substantial enough to make me seriously question the purchase of my GT. The only thing I would like is a little more pep when cruising at highway speeds and hitting some mountains. That is when I feel I need to push the car to get it up and keep my speed. My guess is the 2.0 would add that little extra I would like.

I have heard that 10% ethanol blends are hurting direct fuel injection systems. Recommendations are to use "higher quality" fuels, meaning use 100% gasoline(ethanol-free).
