Well, I noticed in one of the first pics I took of the car that the front bumper appeared to be lighter in color. I wanted to give it some time until after I washed the car, but yep I definitely think it is lighter. I also noticed the rear bumper is lighter, though not quite as noticeable as the front. I want to inspect it closer tonight when I leave work, but it isn't as noticeable in person as it is in pictures. I bought the car at night, so I didn't see it at the dealership, but I am thinking I might need to take a ride up there to show them the difference. Not sure what I want to do about it though . . . Here are some pics. Am I going crazy, or is there definitely a noticeable color variation?

Alex, I think that's normal. My Forte SX has the same issue and the difference is very slight and only noticeable in certain lighting. Probably the difference between the paint used on sheetmetal and the paint used on plastic.

I also know a few cars that have the same problem. One VERY noticeable on a yellow Chevy Aveo. The dealership told Liz, the owner, it's because the paint reacts differently on metal than plastic, and slight differences in hue are normal. I read an article about it somewhere.. Let me try to find it.
And to me, it doesn't look like a mismatched paint, per say, but it seems that when it dried it took on a different hue than the metal. Almost a bluish versus the redder hue. It's more noticeable in the last photo. This post has been edited by Jessie: Sep 25 2012, 04:03 PM -------------------- A proud member of the club.

Alex, I think that's normal. My Forte SX has the same issue and the difference is very slight and only noticeable in certain lighting. Yep across the board. My co-worker complained about this on his 2010 Mazda 3 and we looked at other cars next to his and saw the same issue. Then recently we both walking by another car and he pointed out the difference, then he joking mentioned that if you wanted perfect matching then you'd need to spend 100k -------------------- To Helena Handbasket! |

Ok, that is making me feel better. Outside of pictures or really, really staring hard at it, I haven't noticed the difference, but this is the first car I've had where I've noticed a difference in paint on the body and the bumpers. I will admit a certain part of me started worrying that maybe there was some damage in transit and the bumpers were repainted. It didn't help that I recently read a story of another GT owner who got his car with the wrong steering wheel (it was a dealership transfer which obviously something happened for a wrong steering wheel to be on the car) so then I started getting paranoid whether something happened to mine too

Like the, others said, it's just the various lighting conditions that cause that. Some colors are worse than others I think too. I haven't noticed the bumpers but I have been thinking the gas door (plastic!) and door handles are slightly different colour. I guess we're all paranoid over our brand new, quick decisioned purchase! But I still love the car, just hope I can transplant the 1.6 turbo in it next year

Hey-The gas door & bumpers are a little off in color. I think it's a different paint composition for the plastic parts and the sheetmetal.
A grin and bear it situation. I noticed it right away on my (red) GT. -------------------- A proud member of the club.

Yea, the gas door felt so cheap the first time I opened it. I also spent 5 minutes looking for the release inside, and then realized I just push on it to pop it open. I guess I just assumed it would be locked like my last couple cars. I've been looking at the carbon fiber stick-on that says i30 for the gas cap door found here.

surely is the difference between paint on metal versus plastic. it is not so much a problem with enamel based paint. water based paint is "lighter" and binds better to high energy services.

I haven't noticed any difference with the gray either but now I can't wait for daylight to check. After washing my car, I found a flaw on one of my rims in the paint and it looks like a paint chip on my upper tail fin. I don't know if a dealer would do anything if I were to ask. I guess we are look at the small stuff because they are new. It is hard not to. I see the color difference in the front bumper on your car for sure, but it could be just the right light. If you notice it all the time; I would see what the dealer says. It can't hurt.
