An article published by Automotive News seems to suggest that and the numbers are alarming. In this year's JD Power reliability ranking Hyundai ranked 27th which is near the bottom. A few years ago they ranked 10th. Sonatas and Elantras built at the Montgomery plant are the biggest culprits in Hyundai's drastic drop in reliability.

Well what do you think...
All car companies seem to have a problem with this employing American workers. Isn't ford built in Mexico? They seem the most reliable of the domestic brands. -------------------- 2014 Veloster Turbo - racecar

Hope I don't have people outside my house in the morning.... BUT
I am in one and at least on my side... I know how things are.... UNIONS come to my mind when I think about quality. Unions are not what they once were nor use to what they were intended for. -------------------- |

Hmm, I really would love to know what sort of problems these are. How many of the "problems" were people complaining about gas mileage issues or something like a rattle? I sure hope the AL plant isn't lowering the quality though! I also noticed that the number of problems has not changed very much, rather the ranking has just slipped quite a bit.

Well what do you think... All car companies seem to have a problem with this employing American workers. Isn't ford built in Mexico? They seem the most reliable of the domestic brands. VW builds cars down there and my thoroughly researched, vetted and peer reviewed opinion says they suck Concerning foreign marques made in the southern US: VW, BMW and Mercedes. Need I say more? It could be plant management, employee morale, relations with the main office or the cars have problems outside of the assembly plant (suppliers, design etc). The south tends to have some of the best work force in the country and having worked in factories there I can attest to that as a generality. A clue... "The 2011 Sonata ushered in advanced powertrain technologies that were rare in the segment at the time, such as all-aluminum engines, gasoline direct injection, six-speed transmissions and continuously variable valve timing. It was also the first mid-sized sedan to use a turbocharged four-cylinder in place of a V-6 for high-end models." -------------------- To Helena Handbasket! |

^^^
I believe it has something to do with the newer models. My 10 (old body style) Sonata had zero issues out of that plant. However, every time I drove a new body style as a service loaner I walked away thinking it was awful. -------------------- |

Hey-Both my '11 Elantra & '13 GT had or currently have no issues whatsoever. They were both built in Korea. When an assembly plant is running at full capacity, there is a greater chance that there will be issues with the product. That has happened in the past with many car manufacturers.

Honda and Toyota took the same hit when they started to manufacturing cars in the US. Hell, they've been doing it for almost 20 years and they STILL have QC issues. In fact, if you're looking for a quality used honda, you look for the "J" vin code.

it ticks because she ran it bone dry on oil (has a front main or oil pain seep)
last oil change it was a hyundai filter (bought a bushel on ebay for cheap) and some gas station coastal 10w30 dino oil. -------------------- 2014 Veloster Turbo - racecar
