I am a long time Hyundai car owner. We had two 7 of their cars over the years and we started using them year two that they were in the US. We now own 4 of them in our home. A 2003 Sonata (with over 168,000 miles), a 2004 Elantra GT (over 243,000 miles) and a 2010 Elantra. Tomorrow we pick up our 4th which is a 2014 Elantra GT with the style package. All of these cars have served us very well with few repairs needed over the long life of the cars. Our 04 Elantra is the one I have driven and its served so well. It has started to have hesitation issues that they can not seem to figure out what is going on. It only does it after its been running for a long time normally and for that reason we will stop using it for long trips but I will keep using it for work. We are very excited to have this new Elantra GT and look forward to it serving us well as the cars have all in the past.
Hi, my name's Arman, I'm a student at Red River college studying accounting in business administration. I recently financed a new 2014 Hyundai elantra gt gls in misty green, which to my surprise i recently found out is a canadian exclusive color. Pretty neat considering I put the deposit on the dark silver, but it was already sold to someone else and i had to choose this color.
I love the panoramic roof, and more importantly the six manual gears of freedom. I had a crappy 5spd honda accord that was falling apart before this, which was written off from a hit and run.
So far I have 35% tint all around. Very shortly I plan to buy a fujita intake and stick it on the stock hose with the top lid off, as well as a free-er flowing muffler. I need to find the intake hose and stock muffler inlet/outlet diameter.
I notice the back end is slightly wiggly over the sh!tfaced potholes we have in Winnipeg and other bumps and things, so I plan to throw a couple of KYBs in the back as often recommended around these parts here.
I forgot to mention that I'm just waiting to install full set of component speakers (they're a brand made by klipsch). I have an amp board set up, just in the process of figuring out the wiring work. Ultimately there will be a 400 watt rms 4 ch amp powering the components and a 200 watt mono block that will power a couple of sealed 6 x 9 woofers in the hatch.
This winter roached out the rubber on my rear wiper blade. I figured I could get a 12" refill for it. Not. I guess they don't make them any more, used to be you could put one in with a metal wiper blade just by spreading the clips and sliding a new insert in and crimping everything back down. So these wiper arms/blades are made of plastic and there's no giving trying to put in a new one. The closet replacement was a Rain-X rear wiper blade 12" I found at Walmart for like 8 bucks. Of course it wouldn't fit on the wiper arm, but figured the rubber would fit into the Hyundai wiper blade itself. Not.
Bottom line is, the rear wiper blade is a Hyundai only part. Viewing the other Elantra forum, there was a topic about this some time ago. Currently the dealer price for this item is like almost $48.00, yep just for the rear wiper blade. It is not available aftermarket, and doubt it ever will be due to lack of demand. This same blade will also fit the Tucson. So I found some original brand new OEM Hyundai rear blades on E-Bay and all of those vendors accept Pay-Pal only. Price ranged from like 8-12 bucks not including shipping. Some say that they've had terrible experiences with E-Bay and Pay-pal, but I did find the same part through Amazon from a vendor @ 13.97 each with free shipping from Korea. Might take several weeks before it get's here, but I figured I can wait. I ordered 2. Still beats the price of one from a Hyundai dealership. OEM Hyundai part # is 988501H000.
So yesterday I went with a partner and another senior manager to a meeting and dinner up in NC. I had ended up driving so we took my GT. First question came from the large box in my trunk when I opened it up to throw our bags and suit jackets in the back. . . .
You need to know the partner, but he was like what is that thing. Obviously he knew it was subs but was asking questions about it and he found it interesting to learn about my car obsession. Afterall, not too many accountants would necessarily consider themselves "car guys" and mod their cars. Now I had pulled the fuse so I didn't have it on, but he asked next time to leave it on so he could hear it!
Next topic came the wheels. He was like those didn't come standard did they. Well anyways I explained the flat tire and needing new tires, and getting a great deal on the wheels so I just decided to spring for them. When we got back to the office at night he was like those wheels really look good.
Now we were cruising up and down 85 which was pretty rough from the winter and on the way back, he was like I'm noticing something troubling about your car. He's like when you hit a rough spot (whether be covered potholes or bridges) on the highway it feels like your car is literally hopping from side to side. He was like I thought momentarily that we were going to be in an accident. I found it interesting that a passenger in the back seat noticed the "bouncy" rear-end. I let him know that this was a common complaint and that many folks had replaced the rear shocks for about $200 which fixed the issue. I said based on his comments that I would need to discuss getting them fixed with my wife so she understands that it's not just me wanting to modify my car. His comment, was well you know if you didn't have that box in the trunk, then maybe she wouldn't jumpt to that conclusion!
He then proceded to say, listen if its the money I will give you the $200 as it is very likely I will be driving in your car again and don't want to get killed. Haha, anyways, we talked quite a bit about the car and overall they really liked it. My interesting takeaway was that the passengers could definitely feel the car getting bounced around as much as I could from driving. I've never been a passenger in the car, so I wasn't sure how noticeable it was to them, but the answer is, they can definitely feel it.
Looks like upgrading the suspension is going to be next on my list!
The only issue so far is the key fob. While wandering around the lot I have the keys in my pocket and am forever locking, unlocking, opening the trunk and setting off the security panic alarm.
The fob cover needs to be recessed deeper into another cover so it is less likely I will press something.
I am getting tired of getting into the car only to have to get out to close the trunk.
Anyone else solve this? Have a link I can read? or am I the only one?
Well I decided to go play a little b-ball as I do a couple times a week at the Y. On the way back home there is a 4 way stop with a bad pot hole right on the right side of this very narrow back country road. So of course tonight I'm coming home and an SUV was approaching from the opposite direction and based on the slope of the road completely blinded me. I've been on the road 100's of times and thought I was clear of the pot hole, but NOPE. BLAMMY I whacked the crap out of the wheel, well as bad as you can going about 10 MPH. 5 seconds later my low tire pressure light came on. I was like come on, I don't need this crap right now. As I was coming up the road to my house I knew things were bad. It was pulling to the side and I could tell the tire was getting low quick. I pull in the garage and go look and sure enough the tire has lost a significant amount of air, and by now is likely completely flat. I could hear air coming out when I went to look. So now I'm on my way out to throw my spare tire on the car. Thankfully I have a spare!
What really stinks is I have about 30k miles on the tires and was thinking of rotating them once more and then getting them replaced before winter. Now I need to figure out what I am going to do. Really didn't have in my budget to be purchasing tires right now.
Hi, I'm xmas shopping for my gf. She just got a 2013 Elantra GT and I'm looking for a roof bike rack system to get her. Are there any for sale yet? Anyone have preferences to brands or styles?
This one has the 2.0 engine. The 17% bump in horsepower ups the fun factor over last year's 1.8...

So this past Saturday, my wife and I were invited to dinner at one of the partner's house at my new firm. There were two other couples there which were also fellow co-workers. Well anyways, it was a fun evening and at the end of the night we all went outside where our cars were parked along the street in front of this guy's house. So this guy walks down his driveway as we thank his wife for the evening and say goodbye to the other couples. He turns around and asks whose Hyundai is this? I'm like . So I said that it was mine. He was like that's a really cool looking car, its very nice. This coming from a guy with a new BMW in his garage and a Mercedes out front. There also happened to be a brand new Honda Accord right next to mine (one of the other couple's car) that he didn't even blink at. Well anyways, it was the perfect ending to a great night. Always fun to get comments like that on the car!
Looking trough some multi vehicle crashes on utube and see this Elantra Touring getting hit by a concrete barrier about half way through this video. It seems to fair well, lucky to not get hit from behind too.
I found a little tidbit on an Australian site. Hyundai will be releasing an "SR" version of the new i30 hatchback. It features awesome new wheels, a rear diffuser, sporty red trimmed interior and...a 2.0 GDI engine with 174hp! I have a feeling we might just see this make it to the US.
Apparently, they will be doing an Accent SR as well.
They are redoing our parking lot at work. Leaving today, they had grated a large hole by the exit, so I went to the right of the hole and ended up grinding my right rocker panel into a large concrete curb. I now have this 2 inch of fiberglass showing from the passenger side door down to a small scratch on the rear rim. I guess that means it is no longer a Virgin. I plan to wash and wax it this weekend and look into getting some paint. It doesn't look too bad because it is down on the lower rocker area but it does make me feel stupid.
I just bought a 2013 Elantra GT 6 sp. It's my understanding that they are Euro versions (i30) of the Elantra and significantly different from other US Elantras. Just wondering if someone can point me to some resource that details the differences. TIA
Anyone know the dimensions/requirements for adding a hitch to the new GT? my old GT was not as wide - and the companies I've looked at thus far don't seem to have a standard option for the new GT... thanks
I've changed career recently and will be using my car a lot more for work purposes. I'm now an apprentice Electrician and was thinking that an i30 cw / wagon would be perfect. Id have plently of room for my tools and the roof rack will be perfect for carrying ladders as well.
I'm looking at an i30 cw SLX 4spd Auto with the 1.6 CRDi motor. I know Amercia doesnt get the diesel motor, but would like to know what people think of the car itself and also the Auto transmission.
I would have preferred a Manual, but only the base model SX is avaliable as a manual.
I've never owned an Auto Hyundai... Interested to hear your thoughts.
I'll be replacing the X3 Excel, will be sad to see her go, but shes getting a bit tired. The XD Elantra will be staying! I cant part with it!
Hey everyone! New to the board, looks like a great group of folks.
I have a 11 Elantra Touring 5-speed. Over the summer, tried to start the car and it wouldn't start. Got a jump, but the battery wouldn't hold a charge so off to autozone where they tested the battery... said the factory battery was shot and sold me a new one. It worked fine for a few months, then same thing... car wouldn't start, got a jump and the battery again wouldn't charge. So this time I take it to the dealer who faulted the autozone battery and put a new battery in. Well... back in the same place on the third battery. It will not start the car or hold a charge.
Dealer says alternator and everyting else is fine?!?!
Are there 3 things you like or dislike about your GT or Hyundai itself?
I'll start- +Styling. Current and easy on the eyes. +The way it drives. The adjustable steering sport mode makes a big difference. The rear sway bar is another great enhancement. +Value. Lots of features for a reasonable price.
-Rear seat map lights. Wish these lights turned on when the door is open. -Trunk light. DIM! Will get LED soon. -Hyundai's slowness to make accessories to market. Took up to 4 months to get some of them.
The GT is a hatchback version of Hyundai's Elantra sedan that has, in Hyundai's words, "five-door functionality and European driving dynamics." Sounds like a recipe for success to me. The Elantra sedan is one of my favorite compact sedans, and adding sport wagon versatility makes it even more appealing. Sport wagons are traditionally slow sellers in America, but they are popular in Europe, and for good reason: they provide hauling flexibility and utility. I never have figured out why American buyers are slow to warm to them. Maybe it is because anything that resembles a station wagon reminds buyers of the faux-wood-paneled behemoths of the 1970s.
The Elantra is a surprising machine, and Hyundai has expanded its reach by adding both a coupe and GT variant to the lineup. The styling that Hyundai calls 'fluidic sculpture' has a crispness that is both functional and attractive. Lines sweep over the vehicle in much the same way that wind might flow over it. It has a low, fairly short nose and a long sloping windshield. The GT's wagon back is not quite as elegant as that of the sedan, but it is more practical. The 0.30 coefficient of drag is among the best for this segment. Hyundai's designers, however, have gone beyond a strictly functional shape and given the car excellent aesthetics. That's a bonus for a moderately priced compact with one of the longest warranties in the business.
The GT's base price is $18,545 with a manual transmission and $19,545 with an automatic. Standard equipment includes a cooled glove box, heated front seats, 10-way power driver's seat, leather seating surfaces, automatic headlights, Bluetooth connectivity and steering wheel controls for radio and cruise control. The test car was equipped with both the Tech Package and the Style Package. It was equipped with items such as panoramic sunroof, navigation system, rearview camera, keyless ignition and dual-zone climate control. Many of these features are found on more expensive vehicles.
The 1.8-liter engine, with 148 horsepower, delivers excellent fuel economy. It has dual, continuously variable camshafts, a variable intake system and an electronic throttle control instead of a conventional cable linkage. Fuel economy is rated at 27 miles per gallon in the city and 37 on the highway with the six-speed automatic transmission. Drivability is excellent. The acceleration is quick enough to be satisfying and yet the car cruises comfortably even at speeds slightly above the posted limit. Performance is aided by an automatic transmission that can also be shifted manually.
Tire and road noise are noticeable at highway speeds and that made me wish for more sound deadening. This is a compact car, mind you, so luxury-car quiet is not expected. The ride and handling are as good as anything in its class. The GT has 17-inch wheels. The GT's sport suspension is tightened down so the car doesn't feel soft or floaty. It takes corners without much lean and the steering has excellent feel. Steering feel is adjustable through three settings with a button on the wheel. Even though the Elantra is a compact, it doesn't feel cramped inside. The wheelbase is 104.3 inches long, slightly shorter than the sedan. The cabin is nicely styled and the seats were comfortable. Fold-down rear seats create space for some pretty large items.
All of the controls on the center stack are symmetrically designed, and while some of the buttons are a bit small, their design doesn't impede function. Safety features include knee, front, side and side-curtain airbags, along with vehicle stability control, anti-lock brakes and traction control.
I have looked but I haven't found a decoder ring that explains all of the diffrent types of Elantras. I was thinking I had an MD because my car is made in Korea but then looking at the manuals on Hyundai's web site it says "GD" I have seen HD, and many other types. Do we have a full listing of what is what?
Well, I noticed in one of the first pics I took of the car that the front bumper appeared to be lighter in color. I wanted to give it some time until after I washed the car, but yep I definitely think it is lighter. I also noticed the rear bumper is lighter, though not quite as noticeable as the front. I want to inspect it closer tonight when I leave work, but it isn't as noticeable in person as it is in pictures. I bought the car at night, so I didn't see it at the dealership, but I am thinking I might need to take a ride up there to show them the difference. Not sure what I want to do about it though . . . Here are some pics. Am I going crazy, or is there definitely a noticeable color variation?
Went to check out some features on the new model, and saw a contest on the HyundaiCanada site. Decided to enter. Was a bunch of lifestyle/car choices and at the end I get entered to possibly win a new 2013 Hyundai Elantra GT SE Tech Auto. Here's hoping!
At the end though, they said that the car that fits my lifestyle is a Gen Coupe... hmm maybe they're onto something.
Well as I mentioned a couple times, I've been trying to decide what I was going to do when my Sonata's lease ended in the near future. I started doing some serious research to try and narrow down my choices. While lots of different vehicles crossed my mind, I had my list preliminarily narrowed down to buying my Sonata at lease end, a Mazda 3, Focus Hatch, Golf (though really only liked the GTI), the Dodge Dart, and the Elantra GT. A sunroof was near the top of my list of desired features and a manual was preferred. To be perfectly honest I really would love to get a convertible, but with a family of 5 that just isn't feasible right now. Even though I rarely ever have everyone in my car, the need arises once in a blue moon so having that 5th seat is a necessity. Now back to last night.
So I get home from working all day on Labor day (ironic I know) and after having dinner with the family and putting my kids to bed, I pick up the advertisement I had received from a local Hyundai dealership. It was one of your typical Labor day ones, with a key to see if you won a new car, a guaranteed prize (which was a $5 Walmart gift card), said they would pay up to 120% of black book value for a trade in, etc. Well wouldn't you know the dealership was opened until Midnight on Monday. I said, what the hell, I wanted to go and test drive some cars and check them out a little more in person anyways and I had nothing better to do at that point. So I hop in my Sonata which needed an oil change and also had a near empty tank of gas and drive to the dealership.
Get to the dealership and start talking with a new sales guy (nice guy, just got out of the army) and I go out with him and the guy who's training him (Steve) on a long test drive in a Sonata 2.0T. That thing definitely has nice pick up. Well the only 2012's they had were indiglo blue, which just isn't my cup of tea, so I turn my focus towards one of the Elantra GT's sitting on the lot which is what I went to look at anyways. I swear the car was custom built just the way I dreamed about it. It was the color I was looking for (Titanium Gray w/ black leather interior), had the style package with panaramic moon roof, had the tech package w/ nav, push-button start & proximity key, etc, AND was a manual). I was like BINGO, so we take that one out on a test drive (slightly shorter route) and then Steve takes me to an empty parking lot to test the turning radius and have a little fun doing some figure 8's. I couldn't help but gaze up at the stars overhead in the panaramic roof. I was in love. I mean I knew I couldn't get a convertible but I could get this sweet looking hatch fully loaded with a full panaramic roof overhead which is a great and feasible alternative. At this point, I know this is the car for me, now its just a matter of getting the numbers "right." Well after a little pretty easy back and forth haggling with Steve and the finance manager we came to an agreed upon price for the new car, trade allowance for my lease, and a great APR. Got the paper work done and helped Steve sell his third car that day. Didn't get out of the dealership until 12:30 AM or so, but it was worth it. Went back tonight to get it completely ready for delivery and walk through the manuals and features with Steve. Overall I was completely happy with the experience and highly recommend Hyundai of Greer for anyone in the SC area as well as my sales guy.
If you read (or skimmed) the above, here are the quick numbers. Overall I am happy with them and love the car which is the most important. MSRP of the car $24,440 (it was fully loaded plus had floor mats, wheel locks and first aid kit). Trade in value of my car (2011 Sonata SE w/ 32k miles in clean condition) ranged between $15k to $16k according to the major sites. Purchase price of the '13 GT was 23,555 and trade in allowance for my Sonata was $16,500. Quite frankly on a brand new model I feel like I got a pretty good deal. Truecar is showing factory invoice to be $23,486 and estimated member price of $23,825. Financing was great (2.9% for 72 months) and no finance add-ons. I didn't want to go out 72 months, but I like having the flexibility of having a lower payment if I need it, and the ability to pay more at any time to pay it off quicker. Plus there wasn't any difference in APR between 60 and 72 to make me lean towards a 60 month plan. The scary part is my son turns 10 this Saturday. I am seriously considering keeping this car for the long haul and passing this along to him to use once he turns 16 and then I can get my convertible
Anyways, here is what you came for (some pictures!). I promise to get some better ones in the sunlight when I have more time and the weather clears up.

Well I have some big news to share with the club, BUT I need to announce it in the correct fashion which I just can't quite do right now. So let the guesses begin as to the news and I will share later this week
EDIT: Changed topic title and description based on Jessie's response below (now that the news has been released).
The new 2013 Elantra GT roof rack has factory mounting points for a roof rack, but I can not seem to find one anywhere. The Accent has the same mounting points and I have found racks for it. Does anyone know if the Accent factory rack will fit the GT?
I have a new 2013 Elantra GT and i love the car but the seats see very uncomfortable. The back is very stiff and i can but adjust them to An angle i like. Anyone else have this issue
Greetings folks, previous 2007 Elantra owner here and new 2012 Elantra Touring owner (for about a week now).
Something with the headlights has been bugging me... in my 2007 Elantra when I left the headlights on but turned the car off and removed the key, the headlights would turn off. I thought it strange when I noticed that my Touring wasn't doing that - the lights would remain on. But then ONE time a few days ago, it DID turn them off (it hasn't since). I got curious and checked the manual again and sure enough the headlights should turn off when the key is pulled out. There is a way to circumvent that if need be, but I'm wondering why it's not working as it says in the manual.
The other thing is the stereo... I find that if I leave the stereo on with a CD playing and turn the car off, the next time I turn the car on when the stereo powers on it makes a "pop" sound. Once it was quite loud and startled me. It also occasionally, when playing an MP3 disc, starts playing a completely random MP3 but the song name listed on the display is the correct song. The last thing is I often find I have the hit the power button TWICE to get it to turn on.
Anyone else have these issues? I'm thinking I should monitor them and mention to the dealer my next servicing.
