Hi all,

Here's the lowdown: I've got a 2000 Saturn L series (the bigger Saturn) I bought new and it nears 250,000 miles on the odometer, but its showing its age through wear and tear(heater broken, light bulbs burned out, etc.)

Its been really reliable to my family and has cost little to maintain, as I only run my steeds on synthetic oil.

The timing chain snapped several years ago, but thank God it happened in the parking lot at work, so I shut the engine down immediately, as I knew of this debacle by being an avid reader of www.saturnfans.com and while the timing chain snapped, it didn't destroy the engine whatsoever, such as the pistons, valves, etc. Had I been driving it, the engine would have been toast!

But the repairs are piling up, so its time to sadly bid her adieu/

I really like the 2016 Elantra, as it's affordable and comes with a great warranty.

My questions are as follows:

1. Is Hyundai good about honoring the warranty?

2. How reliable is your Elantra?

3. Are they high-mileage cars and what are the highest mileage ones, such as how many miles on the odometer?

4. Is this comparable to my Saturn L, which until now has been reliable and satisfying?

5. I live in the salt belt in the Midwest. How are the Elantras in terms of rusting?

.......Either convince me or otherwise that this transition to the Elantra is a wise decision and will leave me happy as a lark, as I've been owning the Saturn L (no wonder GM killed Saturn, as they lasted so long and Greedy Motors couldn't sell you another of its vehicles, as Satty's lasted so long!)

Lastly, how reliable has your Elantra been for you?

I welcome any and all serious comments, as I need a new ride that will last my family for the next 10+ years or more.

Thanks much, friends, for your input!

Welcome to ElantraClub!

All I can tell you is that I honestly believe the Elantra is one of the most reliable vehicles on the road today. The warranty is great and these cars are good for the long haul. Now, that may sound like I'm just touting the company line, but it is the truth.

Some longevity polls/threads:

For the most part, the warranty coverage is about the best in the business.

One of the downsides of such a reliable car is that this forum isn't as active as it once was because these cars simply go about their business like they should.

Years ago, I was a big Honda fan. Felt those cars were the most reliable around. Well, my Elantra GT and Kia Forte SX have been more reliable than any Honda or Acura product I previously owned.

Hey hows it going? Having own both Saturn and Hyundai car in the past, i would say the elantra is away better car to own. I had 2 s series and 4 to 5 Elantras. You can read a lot of my past stuff. Im what some here might say a quality control expert, I.E drive them hard and find weak point. Lol. Hyundai is good with warranty stuff and recalls , but that really depends on the dealer you go to. The new Elantra is leaps and bonds nicer that what your used to. About the only nit picky thing i can say about the elantras is, hp and weight. I bit under powered and a bit over weight. But remember they are good economic cars and not race cars. They are very well optioned in standard forum. Anyway hope this helped and welcome to the club.

Welcome to the Club! I think you'll find you made a great choice. I'm still beating on my '03 GT everyday and, though it needs some major maintenance items (surprise surprise for an almost-13-year-old car that's spent its entire existence in MI), it starts every time I put the key in and gets me where I need to go. I'm about a week from rolling 225k on mine.

A little late to the party. But I had my 2005 Elantra GT for 10 years and 129k miles. It had no rust on the paint and nor!al on the undercarraige but I was religious about washing it in winter. I would still have it but had an opportunity to upgarde to the 2015 Sonata. Also both my parents own Hyundais as well.
