Some thing to keep in mind about ElantraClub:

We're the only major Hyundai based community that's run by an individual not some big brother corporation.
We are very low on advertising scripts that slow a board down and the new forum will hopefully be even more ad free.
We've been online continuously since 2002.
In recent times I've rarely asked for donations but we do need them to help keep us going.
Yes, we feature the Elantra but anyone can join no matter what they drive. The Alumni Zone is a great place to post about your non-Elantras.
This place has always been not just about the cars we drive but about the people behind the wheel too. I've always tried to promote a community feel.

-------------------------------------------------

Let's get this place on track

There's more to the internet that Facebook. Forums are still the very best way to discuss/communicate for a niche group like we have.

Don't let this club just fade away.

Mitch

P.S. ElantraClub's new forum grand opening is August 1, 2017. smile.gif

Hi Mitch,

Haven't been here for ages, quite annoying what happened, but great to see the club will bounce back!

I think you're on the right page with the new direction. I'm also on a i30 forum based in Australia and the activity is very much the same as you describe.

Looking forward to signing up to the new club!

A Dean sighting. Cool!

So, what's been keeping you away from EC? I always want to know when a regular just disappears from EC. Inquiring minds and all that. wink.gif

Well, we pretty much have zero activity even with the idea of a brand new forum coming. Am I wasting my time?

Hi Mitch, hope you have been well too! Is the Forte your current wheels?

Other than the usual life being busy, which I think most people are these days. It's more over the last few years, I've been using a PC much less at home and I keep forgetting to log into EC!

The only reason I'm a bit more active on the i30 forum is because our FD wagon and GD were both diesel and there was a bigger following of the diesel engine over there. We just sold our 6spd manual diesel i30 in Feb, Manual is such a dying breed that when we put it on the market we had 3 people fighting for it and got insane money for it! Bought the car for $26k new and sold it for $21k almost 3 years later! We've now just purchased a 2.2 CRDi Santa Fe Sport, my first auto car ever! - We were going to get it in manual, but it had a dual mass clutch, and I wasn't hearing good things about it, so we went the Auto.

Also the forum It works with the Tapatalk App. If I didn't have that I doubt I'd even be on there much either.

Will the new site be compatible with Tapatalk? Or some other App?

I've made a very big decision and it's very member/visitor friendly. There will be no ads on the new forum at all. None. Can you name any other car forum with no ads?

It will just make for a better experience for all.

That means no income for me to help maintain/improve the site though. So, I ask anyone who has even the smallest amount of interest in the club to donate to help the cause.

I am trying to see if I can implement the affiliate mall again but so far I've had no luck. Recreating this new forum is a big, time-consuming project.

Thanks,
Mitch

I'd be happy to donate to the club. It's pretty amazing to think this place has been around for 15 years now!

Can't believe it's been 12 years since I bought my XD Elantra and was absolutely stoked to pick it up from the dealer. I loved my XD.

To be honest there hasn't been an Elantra since the XD that I looked at and thought, yep Hyundai you got it right again.

Enter the AD Elantra and I'm in love again! It's such a beautiful looking car from all angles. The front is spot on, side profile is sleek and the back is sexy just like the XD. The interior has a hit of the XD's legacy with the centre stack and cluster together like the XD.

I'm hoping to sell off the FD i30 Wagon, to be honest the diesel is starting to act up and I want to get rid of it before it costs too much in repairs. Mechanically it possibly needs a new turbo and I reckon there is something going on with one of the sensors on start up.

The partner and I are set on the AD Elantra SR - In Australia that is what they call the 1.6 Turbo top spec model. We drove the new i30 and Elantra and I just thought the Elantra had more personality. The i30 had more tech than the Elantra, but the ride and size of the car is much nicer.

We're looking at the 7 speed DCT... Im struggling with the idea of not having a manual transmission. Manuals are just unbreakable compared to autos, but given how much traffic we drive in these days the auto is better suited for us... I bet If I drove the manual I could easily change my mine.

Looking forward to joining the Elantra community again!

Mitch,

In response to your note you just sent...

People these days want everything for free. They expect you to go out of your way and wipe their ass clean (figuratively speaking) without performing any type of research on their own or without spending one dime. Also, from the time that you started the forum, people appreciated the help and the community, we gave a shit (most of us anyway).

Today, I think it's a generation thing. Smart phone strapped to the hand and text text text. People are harsh when they respond or reply and they seem to have more attitude than the older days. Probably the result of texting instead of having a real conversation in person or over the phone. The "I don't give a shit" attitude if you know what I'm saying. They'll buy shitty mufflers and crappy parts and spend useless amounts of money without researching but that's OK, don't ask them to spend $1 on a forum subscription though..

Us older folks are still around, we are just not into mods as much or have moved on to some other passions. My Santa Fe won't be modded, I love it as-is but I still like good communities (none left). Not as active as I first was, obviously, but still try to visit here and there. I'm part of a few Santa Fe forums and it's dead there as well. A few nice guys but nothing close nit as EC used to be. The politeness is gone today.

I tip my hat to you for all you have done. Many people would have sold it and maybe you should have. It's cool that you are making a new site but not sure how it will work out, I hope it takes off like a jet!

To finish off, it would suck to see this site go... but this is my opinion, you should also start thinking about yourself. It's very obvious that you went through a lot, if EC is something that you need to keep your blood flowing, then by all means keep going, but if you think you need a break from it, then...

I'll always be around, I may have disappeared for a while (due to some unforeseen life circumstances) but I always come back.
