Yep did it. Got me some DOT 3 fluid, took off the air filter box, droped the air filter into a puddle of water, drained the fluid, lost the valve, found it, took off the cable spring went fling..... what a tinnnnny thing. Put it all back together it works great!!!!!. Got a new air filter.....

Let me start by blaming the Elantra Club for every mod on my car, O and the fact that I am addicted to Ebay.... Thats a bad combo. I used to spend money on snowboarding and surfing, Im overdue for a new Surfboard and wetsuit, but would rather spend the money on my car. That being said:

I had an old Jetta that kept breaking down, and having a 2 year old at the time made it unsafe. So with the help of my parents I purchased a 2001 elantra GT with 42K miles on it for $8000 in July of 2004. Only mods were aftermarket stereo, SRI, and Surf Racks. 13 months later this happened:


Fell asleep at the wheel on the way home from work. That pole didnt move out of my way! well after i walked away without a scratch from a pretty serious accident I couldnt see myself driving anything else. I searched for almost a month before I found another XD Hatch that was 5speed and in good condition. A few weeks back I decided to start 'doing what I want'. As a result, I've made some minor, though IMO very useful mods to my car. I haven't had a chance to update my garage yet - but will do so in the next week. Also, I know the first one isn't technically a "mod" per se, but it's probably the best thing I've ever done to my car.

Complete

1) New Front Windshield - Mine was horribly pitted. I found a place that replaced it for $180 and it looks great! I can finally drive into direct sun without being blinded by glare

2) Sony XPlod 6.5" 4-Way Speakers - These sound 100x better than stock - and with my Sony HU I'm sure they sound even better than they would with the stock HU. Funny story actually - I was only upgrading because my rear driver speaker was blown. Well... it wasn't. Some idiot just tried to use some house wiring to connect it to the car, then proceeded to put the wires such that their tips touched but were not connected by any means (Picture Below - That's my friend in disgust). Eugh - anyway, we ran both speakers (new and old) and found that while the Sony's were MUCH more crisp, the OEM's did offer more bass (not a big issue for me).

3) Tinted Windows - This is has been a great one too. I was FINALLY able to roll down my windows after a week of waiting. I did 35% in the front and 20% in the back and it looks GREAT! I'm absolutely thrilled with how these turned out.

4) Blue Climate Cluster - I took the dive and paid ilanpro to do this for me. A week later it came in. Holy crap does it ever look amazing! I don't even have words to say how much nicer my car is looking. Now I just need a shift boot to cover up the only 'major' green left which is where my AT shifter is.

5) Disconnecting the Chime - Not gonna lie... after doing this I felt like flying down south and kissing Doohickie.

To-Do

1) Blue Clock Mod - Mitch sent me the film to do this mod so as soon as that comes in - yet another part of my car will be blue

2) Throttle Body Coolant Bypass - I was going to do this last weekend but chickened out when I realized that I didn't have any new clamps in case I couldn't reattach the old ones. Will probably buy some in a week or two and do this then - I can always return it if I don't use it

3) PCV Filter - This is just a matter of me getting the separator and finding the time to do this. Though I admit, this is a project I'd like to find someone to do with me - just seems more fun.

4) Ground Wire Upgrade - Just seems like a practical mod - plus, since installing my speakers I've noticed my FM reception is fuzzy and I'm hoping this may fix it.

Well - that's everything for now. It's been a lot of fun so far and I hope to keep it up. I'm trying to keep my modding costs moderate so I'm not always getting top of the line everything, but I'm making sure the quality is enough to see my car through.

What to say about the Red Rocket? Well, let's start by saying that this and other forums helped convince me to buy an Elantra. You convinced me enough to drive 40 miles out of my way, past at least three other Hyundai dealerships, to find a car with the basic options I wanted: hatchback, cruise and AT. This was at the end of the 05 model year, just after the rebates were cut. My previous two cars were red, so I had resolved not to buy another red car. I love the tidal wave blue Elantra. But anyway, when I got to the dealer to check out the two they still had left, they had a champagne-colored one (too much of a "mom's car") and an electric red one... that had a spoiler which wasn't on the window sticker! I ended up buying it on 7 Oct 05 and started modding almost immediately.

I got my car with few bad things:
1. Few scratches around car. Tiny scratches on hood. (as if someone washed the car with a dirty mit or something)
2. Few Chips on hood, Big one (about quarter size) on roof. (I tried to fix the big one on the roof with touch up paint; it doesnt look to good as my paint is much lighter than the paint.)
