How to perform Idle Relearn ?

Posted by: mtlelantra Feb 8 2010, 12:09 AM

I don't think our ECUs need to learn idle...

my old 06 Swift (Aveo) did, this was for the Siemens ECU that they used:
Turn the ignition ON for 5 seconds.
Turn the ignition OFF for 5 seconds.
Start the engine in park/neutral.
Allow the engine to run until the engine coolant is above 185° F (85°C ).
Turn the A/C ON for 10 seconds, if equipped.
Turn the A/C OFF for 10 seconds, if equipped.
Turn the A/C ON for 10 seconds, if equipped.
Turn the A/C OFF for 10 seconds, if equipped.
Turn the ignition OFF. The idle learn procedure is complete.

I've never done anything like that with my 04 Elantra...

If you have an automatic transmission, after a reset the TCM does need to go through a procedure to reduce shift flare and internal wear- when the engine is warm, you go through a series of 1-2-3-4 automatic upshifts at medium throttle and then come to a stop. Do this ~4 times I think.
